Surely I don’t need to reference a certain rapper/designer’s recent remarks on branding and a certain turnt up Grammy moment involving the removing of E! branded mic flags to drive this point home. Instead of spending time on the inner workings of Mr. West, I’ll simply sum it up by saying the future of branding is sort of a “brand-less branding.”
Shying away from logos in favor of design are the luxe basics and nondescript handbags favored by the fashion-forward. In the days of my youth it would have been horrific to be found out for wearing anything less than Nike, Jordan Brand or any of the greats, but now it seems like if it’s good, it’s good.
Insert the sparkly Zara trainers. Cool enough to catch a few eyes but not too branded to look overtly “street style.” Without a swoosh or stripes these babies hold their own when it comes to design. Slightly knockoff-er-ish I realize, but you know that doesn’t bother me.
